January Volunteer Lunch and Meeting

A recent PLAS meeting saw the addition of a much deserved volunteer appreciation lunch. With delicious food from Southwest Community Options, this was a great time to visit and show appreciation to those that without the help of would make bringing the fair to life impossible.
The offical meeting got underway shortly after, and present were Bryan Podworny, Leanne Treloar, Blair Rankin, Ray Miller, Kendal Carlisle, Doug Treloar, Connie Bergman and Eva Miller. There was also approximately 30 volunteers.

Discussion included reviewing the past meeting's minutes, as well as the treasurer report.
PLAS had received a thank you card from the Ninette and District Seniors Drop In for
the monetary donation towards the wheelchair lift..
There was also conversation about an email from the Manitoba Angus Association to Ag Societies. Blair Rankin will contact the association to further see what would be involved in holding a show.
Old business included the continuing work towards signs on the North Fencing.
PLAS will apply for the infrastructure grant through MAAS and ask for funding to cover
cost of repairs to the riding arena, paint and materials for repairing the barns, as well as
paint for the picnic tables and bleachers and solar lighting beer garden for the barns. As
well labour costs involved. Connie Bergman and Ray Miller will get prices for material
by mid February, as the Infrastructure Grant needs to be submitted by the end of
February.

There was discussion regarding moving the wash racks.
Eva Miller contacted graduating class in Killarney, who may consider doing the painting
that is involved. Essie Kruger expressed that she would then redo the mural on the barn.
Outstanding expenses related to Big Daddy Taz is the beer purchased. Bryan
Podworny has not been able to find the till receipt.

Plans for the upcoming Teen Dance were discussed regarding $10.00 admission that would include soft drink, chips, and chance to win a door prize. Posters will be sent to the surrounding high schools in Killarney, Baldur, Wawanesa, and Glenboro.
The 2nd annual Spring Social will be held April 5th at the Ninette Hall. We will ask the hall committee to run the bar again this year.
Discussion regarding giving a gift certificate to Marie Jenzen for auditing the books, as
she did not want to be reimbursed. Suggested that since is involved with the food bank
in Killarney perhaps we could make a monetary donation in her name to the Food Bank
in Killarney. Moved by Deanna Spencer seconded by Blair Rankin that $100.00 be
donated to the Killarney Food Bank.
FAIR NEWS:
Bobbie Rankin suggested we have a special 70 year Anniversary Special for adults that
would include 1 handicraft item, baking item, and 1 horticultural item that would be
judged and displayed in the entertainment tent until 5:00 PM on June 14.
Children’s Entertainment discussion regarding having someone arrange the children’s
program and giving them a budget. Was suggested the executive meet prior to the next
meeting to develop a budget.
Bryan Podworny will confirm with Pinnacle regarding the Bar Tent. The cost is
approximately $4600.00 the same as last year. Bryan Podworny will also contact Brandon Bouncy Castles regarding returning to the fair.
Trickle Creek Farms had expressed interest in coming with there team of horses for both
the Friday and Saturday. Bryan Podworny will contact to see how much they would
charge us for two days. Last two years they were paid $500.00 for 5 hours.
Los Mambas may not be available. Discussion regarding having Mike Sarcharko
returning.
Next meeting will be scheduled at a later date. Bryan Podworny may not be available,
therefore Blair Rankin will chair.
