PELICAN LAKE AGRICULTURAL MEETING

May 24th, 2026,

Called to order by Bryan Podworny at 7:10 pm

Correspondence’s

Email received from Manitoba Liqour and Lotteries sponsorship funds of $2000.00. 

As well MLLC have set aside 50 seats at a Blue Bomber game on August 14^th between Winnipeg and Ottawa.  We can give to our volunteers or it was suggested give as part of the rainbow auction or something similar.

Old Business

Beef supper food still outstanding we are awaiting to hear from Wellwood Colony on the cost. 

Beer Garden/Liquor license / supplies.  Word was received that MLLC need  further clarification on some things.  Leanne Treloar has been dealing with this.  Also the fellow who owns the refrigerator truck wants only cash and will not issue a receipt.  Discussion regarding perhaps looking for another business or having Kendal Carisle pay in cash, and then we issue cheque.

Bathroom construction and Ag Grounds  no further information.

Logo contest have received 1 other submission and one is pending.

Canada Day starting at 5:00 pm.  Paul McLeod will prepare the pork, will have coleslaw, kaiser rolls.  Bryan Podworny is looking into coordinating “the bubble guy” as Killarney is having him earlier in the day.    Bands have not yet been identified.

Photographer  still on going this person would be able to attend all the PLAS activities, not just the fair.  Possibly we could offer a small reimbursement.

Posters were distributed to the volunteers to hang in various communities.

Baby Contest/Bike decorating.  Diane Stephenson will judge the baby contest again this year.  Bike decorating will be held prior to the parade.

Rocky Mountain Equipment ongoing.

Windows will be installed in the canteen this week.

The billboard was welded to the truck by Ninette Welding.  His bill for $256.17  has been submitted for payment.

Corn hole contest we will need about 4 volunteers.  Will reach out to the community to borrow the equipment.  There will be charge of $20.00 per team.

AG on the Moove trailer needs to be picked up in Winnipeg.  Bryan Podworny will pick up on Monday or Tuesday before the Fair.   He confirmed that it does not have to be stored inside or that when in use does not have to be in a covered area.

New Business

AK from the hotel asked to speak to the group regarding taking over the meat draw.   New legislation states that the meat draw raffles must be run by an individual group.  Each group must apply for a licence.  Discussion occurred regarding enough volunteers as we would need 2 to 3 volunteers to do this every week.  Discussion regarding AK  reaching out to other community groups to also participate in the meat draws.

The present harrow that we have is insufficient for what is needed in the riding arena.  Suggestion made to try sell it and purchase a larger one or a box scraper with teeth.  Blair Rankin suggested that we could possibly get $1400.00 to $1500.00 for the harrow. 

Bryan Podworny suggested we use golf carts for the seniors with mobility issues to get around to the various events of the fairgrounds.

PLAS has received several request for use of tables by Phillip Cartwright for use of the tables from June 26^th to 28.  Belmont Music in the Park will give us $250.00 for the  use of the tent.

Clarification of the number of volunteers for various activities for the fair.

The following still need to be filled:

50/50 – 6 people needed from 3:30 to 11:00.  Will stop selling from 5:30 to 7:00 pm.

Horse show we have 3 volunteers, Gail Campbell feels this is sufficient.  However, perhaps look for people to do a second shift in the afternoon.  Gail will confirm with those volunteers if they want to do the whole day.

Mini Horse show have arranged their own volunteers.

Ag on the Moove maybe 4 people depending on how long the trailer is open.

Rainbow Auction 5 people over the two days doing 2 hour shifts.

Car Show need 2 people for 1 hour at the beginning.

Children’s activities from for both Friday and Saturday.  Two people for each day.

Cattle show the volunteers have been looked after.

Bar has been covered.

Bar tickets still need 3 people for the evening portion until 12:00 am.

Gail Campbell asked if there will be a “square” so that people can pay the day of the event.  Bryan confirmed that one has been purchased.  We have received a few horse entries in the last few days.  However, none of the riders have prepaid.    Bryan will get Gail signing information to the goggle forms for the horse entries.

We will need to apply for the permit for raffle for the Friday evening, as the liquor permit only covers raffles for Saturday of the Fair.
